Spring Term
Year 1 Spring term Curriculum-
At Millfield, our curriculum is based around
"Repeat, Revisit, Remember"
Our curriculum is designed so that we repeat and revisit themes, topics and learning every few weeks.
Below are some of the specific things we are doing this term in each subject:
Literacy (writing)
- A plethora of short stories to develop sentence structure. In addition we look at non-fiction texts to introduce children to non-chronological writing.
Reading
- Following Monster Phonics
- Guided reading to focus on reading skills and comprehension
Maths
- Place value
- Calculations using addition and subtraction
Science
Weekly change of topics ranging from the following:
- Plants (wild and garden)
- Deciduous and evergreen trees
- Categorise animals
- 5 senses
- Categorise materials
- Light sources
- Observe sounds
- Electricity- appliances
Topic Geography (focus on the UK)
Topic History (focus on Victorians)
Music: (singing and performing/ Listen and appraise}
Football (chants\)
- Understand musical terms such as pitch and rhythm
- keeping a beat
Art
- Canal and Roses (canal boat art)
- Drawing skills: flowers
DT
- Mechanisms (sliders and levers)
RSE
- Recognise different relationships
Computing
- Safety
- Computer Science
Languages (French)
- Greetings
- Numbers 1-10
RE
We follow the Walsall agreed syllabus children learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others.
They are introduced to faiths they may meet in the community
